GI Joes Shipwreck vs. Copperhead - Comic Pack Review

I justGI Joes Shipwreck vs. Copperhead finished reading the GI Joes comic Security Shield, the Shipwreck vs. Copperhead comic book that comes with the Shipwreck and Copperhead comic pack. It was a pretty good read. I always liked the Shipwreck character although I have limited experience with the Navy types aside from my granddad who was a WWII Navy man stationed aboard the USS Nimitz aircraft carrier.

This is one of the great GI Joes battles at sea that puts Shipwreck up against Copperhead. There are some great hand-to-hand scenes in all the comic style glory that you can imagine. Up in the skies above the USS Flagg, Ace wards off the Cobra aerial assault. The comic features some other Joe appearances that you will just have to read to find out. How about that for a sales pitch?

GI Joes Shipwreck“Shipwreck” or Hector X. Delgado is from Chula Vista, CA. His primary military specialty is a gunners mate and his secondary specialty is a machinist. His hardest tour of duty was along the Mekong Delta where hand-to-hand fighting with river pirates was a daily routine. This is one tough sonuva….

GI Joes CopperheadThe Cobra enemy, Copperhead, in this comic pack has a classified name. Don’t they all? His specializes as a swamp vehicle driver. He was born somewhere in the Mediterranean on an island. It is believed that is a native or very familiar with the Florida Everglades. It is believed by intelligence sources that he raced speedboats in Monaco and Japan. It is also believed that he sold his services to Cobra to pay off some gambling debts.

These are two rough cut soldiers that go at it bare knuckled. Of course, the GI Joes always come out victorious. I hope that wasn’t a spoiler for you. But fear not, Cobras never die either. Always the happy ending.

This was a great read and the comic pack GI Joes are very detailed and impressive. I really like Shipwreck and his parrot Polly. This may be bumped up on my favorites list of the new 25th anniversary GI Joes.

Stay tuned for my future project for the GI Joes blog. I intend display my current collection of the 25th Anniversary GI Joes. I don’t have many yet, but the collection is growing. (BTW… I’m on the hunt for the first 25th Anniversary Flint should anyone see one at a good price.)

Once I display my little collection, I will throw together my list of favorites from my collection and my list of overall favorites from the 25th edition. These can always change, so you’ll just have to stay tuned. Subscribe to the RSS.

Thinking Back On GI Joes and a Mound of Dirt

What drives a person to collect GI Joes?

Well, for me, it is a flashback to being a skinny little boy that was in awe of soldiers and the American fight for freedom. The GI Joes theme song always struck up a little patriotism in me when I was just beginning to understand what patriotism really was.

I can remember being in the backyard waist deep in a hole my brother and I had dug in the yard. We had piled up a huge mound of dirt. The dirt would serve as our battleground for the GI Joes versus Cobra war that we would undertake. My brother would dig tunnels on one side of the hill and I would dig mine on the other.

Our little fortress sure would be elaborate by the end of the play day. I can remember having to be forced by my parents to come back inside, shower and have dinner before hitting the hay on a school night. It was always hard to leave that mound of dirt behind knowing that our dog would rampage it during the night.

In adverse weather when my brother and I were trapped inside, our bed sheets and blankets would make a fine battleground for our GI Joes. Again, he would take one side of the bed or floor and me the other. The battle between our GI Joes and Cobra would wage all day and night if permitted and there was no school the following day. Life was good.

Sometimes I long for those careless days of lying on my belly with my GI Joes arranged in front of me for a little firefight. I guess those times are long gone, but my yearning to buy every one of the GI Joes that I come across still burns. I guess the kid in me will live with me until I’m an old man.

GI Joes Wave 11 - I’m Not Jumping Up and Down

GI Joe wave 11 is already in the works and about ready to be released for our nasty addiction consumption. I’m working on getting some images together.

Below are the figures that are known to be in the Wave 11 release.

  • Specialist Trakker M.A.S.K.
  • Pilot Scarlett
  • Cobra EEL
  • Sgt. Airborne
  • Zartan Swamp Squad
  • Cobra Flint
  • Wraith
  • Wraith (Clear variant)
  • Cobra Para-Viper

I’ve seen a few images of the Cobra Flint and it isn’t something that I’m dying to have, but, I probably will end up grabbing it. I don’t want to miss any of these action figures. I assure you, the one you don’t grab will be the hardest to get your hands on in two or three years.

I can’t tell you that I’m super-excited about any of the GI Joes wave 11 group. But, if I was forced to choose, I guess I would lean towards the Sgt. Airborne figure. I’m trying to recall the original figure.

Duke vs. Red Star: The Oblivion Express - GI Joes Comic Pack

I finally read this comic book that came with the GI Joe comic pack that includes the Duke and Red Star action figures.

I think the temporary alliance between these two characters is pretty interesting and does symbolize the way such things work in the real world outside of the GI Joes universe.

Alliances are built between real world operations all the time. These alliances can happen between two commonly opposed parties for the ability to complete a mission that the two parties may have in common and necessity.

Duke symbolizes American strength and leadership. He symbolizes our freedom and courage of the American G.I. Red Star symbolizes the harsh and direct beliefs of many in the former Soviet Union. Below the levels of what you see in the press and what is expressed by leadership in our country and Russia exist two peoples with common interests and desires.

Once I compile the information that I’ve received from some of my sources, I will begin to layout a “story” of many characters that are so much like the GI Joes that you have come to know and will learn more about in my blog.

You will have to determine if these “stories” are fact or fiction as I cannot and will not comment either way. I’ll just be the storyteller relaying much of this to you. You choose what you want to believe.
