GI Joes Barbecue - Where’s the Fire?!
Category: Gi Joe Toys Action FiguresBarbecue was GI Joe’s answer to firefighting, and a crazy firefighter he was. The original figure was part of the 4th series of the original GI Joes to come out in 1985. He was the GI Joe team’s first firefighter and his appearance truly captures the spirit of that profession.
Barbecue is one of the many descendants of firefighters in his family, the 7th descendant, and brings that long line of experience and expertise to the GI Joes team. His real name is Gabriel A. Kelly and according to hi file card, he’s a real “party animal” and fun to be around.
The file card states that in the party spirit, he can open bottles with his teeth, pick up quarters with his ears and wrap his lips completely around the bottom of a Coke bottle. I don’t know about all that, but maybe it could come in handy. He’d probably promote quite quickly.

Barbecue was one of my more preferred GI Joes. I always liked the burnt orange uniform and the gray helmet. My favorite weapon had to be that axe he toted around with him.
I wa sbrowsing through YouTube and ran across this GI Joe commercial from the 80’s. This commercial introduces Barbecue and Shipwreck. it sure brings back good memories of dirt mounds and GI Joe action figures.
