Welcome to the GI Joe Collectors’ Blog
Category: UncategorizedFor as far back as I can remember as a kid, my all-time favorite toy was the GI Joe action figure. I never had any of the 12” figures, but had more than I can count of the 3 ½” action figures. I wish I still had all of them, but ended up giving them away to my younger friends and relatives as I grew older and felt I was much too mature to be playing with toys.
Now I’m a grown man, and am reconnecting with the kid I once was. Or, maybe the kid never left, I’ve just been ignoring him in this false sense of adulthood.
The craving is back. I wonder the aisles of Wal-Mart with my wife and am lured to the toy aisle often to “see if anything new has come out for my nephew”. At least, that’s what I tell the wife. Secretly, I am back in the boy’s mindset, drooling over the GI Joe action figures.
I finally ask myself, who cares? Who cares what anybody thinks, I’m buying myself a GI Joe action figure. I bring it back to the cart that my wife is pushing along. I lay it in the cart and she watches me closely with a funny look on her face.
“Who’s that for?”
“Well,” I say, “It’s for my nephew, I think his birthday is around the corner.”
My wife shakes her head and that GI Joe action figure is now sitting on my desk with a fire-team of others. (A fire-team is Army talk for a 3-4 man infantry team utilized for assaults. Yes, in my mind, I’m still an Army grunt; my body is just a bit slower.)
That’s the idea of this blog. I will focus on all things G.I. Joe. Now, I am fond of the 3 ½” action figure, but will venture into other related topics if need be.
I would love to hear about some of the G.I. Joe stories out there and even see some collections if possible. I am also always on the lookout for a good guest writer to post a few entries about their G.I.Joe goodies and stories. So, please, send me an email or post a comment.
